Geared to readers from preschool to age eight, What Makes a Baby is a book for every kind of family and every kind of kid. It is a twenty-first century children’s picture book about conception, gestation, and birth, which reflects the reality of our modern time by being inclusive of all kinds of kids, adults, and families, regardless of how many people were involved, their orientation, gender and other identity, or family composition. Just as important, the story doesn’t gender people or body parts, so most parents and families will find that it leaves room for them to educate their child without having to erase their own experience. Written by a certified sexuality educator, Cory Silverberg, and illustrated by award-winning Canadian artist Fiona Smyth, What Makes a Baby is as fun to look at as it is useful to read.

Susan Elderkin's brilliant Sunset Over Chocolate Mountains explores our places in the lives of our loved ones and in the universe. Theobald Moon lives in a lonely corner of the Arizona desert, tending his spectacular cactus garden, his tiny mobile home, and his astounding appetite. He has fled a stifled, cardigan-and-tea-cozy life in south London for this unfamiliar country and is raising Josephine, who has known no other life than their cheerful yet isolated American one. But when a jangling ice-cream truck finds its way into the desert carrying two ill-fated lovers--a pregnant Slovakian shoemaker and a mysterious ice-cream man--it throws Theo's and Josie's careful lives into a chaotic state for which they're totally unprepared. Fantastic upheaval ensues, as well as an inspired redemption. Innovative and accessible, funny and profound, Elderkin's "beautiful, touching story" (Bookseller) explores love and responsibility, and the joys and fears such emotions inspire. It is a rare and tantalizing first novel.

"God wrote a book." There is something very powerful in that simple statement. The book, of course, is the Bible, and because God is its author, it's the most important work ever written. Millions across the world agree with that, yet many believe it only conceptually, doubting that the words of the Bible are in fact the very words of God. Pastor James MacDonald addresses today's disturbing trend away from taking God's Word seriously. He clarifies the misconceptions that surround the infallibility, reliability, and historicity of the Bible and explains why he believes it is the inspired Word of God, how it originated, what the Bible is good for, and its benefits to us. Written to believers and non-believers who have questions, this book on the Good Book has the answers.

An engaging introduction for very young children to the basic facts of life in a way that is gentle, age-appropriate and accessible. Child psychologist Dr. Jillian Roberts created the Just Enough series to help parents and caregivers approach difficult subjects with little ones. These primers offer a gentle and accessible starting point for conversations about important topics. Research shows that children are learning about sex at an increasingly young age and often from undesirable sources. The Q&A format, with questions posed in the child’s voice and answers starting simply and becoming gradually more in-depth, allows the adult to guide the conversation to a natural and satisfying conclusion. Additional questions at the back of the book allow for further discussion. Where Do Babies Come From? is the first book in the Just Enough series. Other topics in the series will include death, cultural diversity and separation or divorce.

I fi nally found the time to fi nish the book I had years ago promised my grandson I would write, to tell him how he was born. Every time I started to write, I was confronted by another roadblock. After my bouts with cancer, surgery, chemo, and then more surgery, I just could not get it fi nished. Now, I have been able to get the book in print to fulfi ll my promise to write my grandson an answer to his often-asked question, “Where did I come from, Oma?” I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did writing it, and that you will pass it on to your children and grandchildren, so it can help answer questions they might have on how they were born. I want to thank Nicholas for never giving up on me and for asking the question, which gave me the idea that all children might enjoy the answer. I also need to thank my gynecologist, Dr. Jeff rey B. Frank, affi liated with the Reading Hospital and Medical Center (Reading, Pennsylvania), for proof-reading the accuracy of my details, and my friend Gloria Beidler, who continued to encourage me to get the book fi nished. It is my love of children that kept me writing, to help parents who simply do not know what to say to their children on the subject. Th ank you for taking the time to read this book. Enjoy the story of “Where did I come from, Oma?”
