A majority of the chapters in this book were originally presented as papers at a conference held at Queen's University Belfast in September 2006. The volume explores the oral-written dynamic in the "conte francais/francophone," focusing on key aspects of the relationship between oral and written forms of the "conte." The chapters fall into four broad thematic areas (the oral-written dynamic in early modern France; literary appropriations and transformations; postcolonial contexts; storytelling in contemporary France: linguistic strategies). Within these broad areas, some chapters deal with sources and influences (such as that of written on oral and vice versa), others with the nature of the discourse resulting from an oral-written dynamic (discourse structure, linguistic features etc.), some with the oral-written interface as it affects the definition of genre, others with the role of the 'oral' within the literary or written text (use of storytelling scenarios, the problematics inherent in transcribing/adapting the spoken word etc.). This chronological and methodological range allows us to situate the emergence of the form in socio-cultural and historical terms, and to open up debate around the role of the "conte" in particular geographical and political contexts: regional, national, European and postcolonial. This book contains contributions in both English and French."

Tony Colletti, a good suburban cop and father, finds himself drawn into the controversy over vaccines and autism when he tries to uncover the truth behind the shadowy Vaccine Court. His dangerous journey forces him to will risk his life and honor while confronting corrupt government officials, the powerful pharmaceutical industry, and disturbing elements of his own past. Colletti and his allies battle spies, Russian gangsters, and sexual predators preying upon disabled children. They go to war against foes who manipulate the media, fabricate scientific research, and viciously attack those who question vaccine safety. In this gripping novel, government and industry have formed an unholy alliance that places profit ahead of children’s health, one that makes ordinary Americans fight back to protect their families and the ideals of justice. "Theatre Management: Producing and Managing the Performing Arts delivers a broad, comprehensive, wide-angle view of theatre and performing arts management, based on the premise that all of the performing arts share the same core issues: producing or presenting artistically satisfying works in accord with their missions, finding and keeping an audience, providing for the financial and creative well-being of an organization or production, and maintaining good personnel and public relations. Beyond addressing management issues specific to legitimate theatre, Theatre Management also deals with broader issues that affect all of the performing arts: mission statements, legal organization and structure, not-for-profit organizations, personnel, place of performance, budgeting, box office/ticketing, fundraising, marketing, public relations, advertising, and performance management. In this thorough, informed and informative updating of the theatre and arts administration classic Theatre Management and Production in America, David Conte addresses needs and concerns confronting 21st Century managers. Theatre Management: Producing and Managing the Performing Arts is the fundamental text and indispensable reference for all arts managers."--BOOK JACKET.
