For courses in biochemistry. Engage students in biochemistry visually and through real-world applications Biochemistry: Concepts and Connections engages students with a unique approach to visualization, synthesis of complex topics, and connections to the real world. The author team builds quantitative reasoning skills and provides students with a rich, chemical perspective on biological processes. The text emphasizes fundamental concepts and connections, showing how biochemistry relates to practical applications in medicine, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, and forensics. The newly revised 2nd Edition integrates even more robust biochemistry-specific content in Mastering(tm) Chemistry, creating an interactive experience for today's students. New Threshold Concept Tutorials help students master the most challenging and critical ideas in biochemistry, while Interactive Case Studies connect course material to the real world by having students explore actual scientific data from primary literature. The 2nd Edition provides a seamlessly integrated learning experience via text, Mastering Chemistry, and an interactive Pearson eText. Also available with Mastering Chemistry Mastering(tm) is the teaching and learning platform that empowers you to reach every student. By combining trusted author content with digital tools developed to engage students and emulate the office-hour experience, Mastering personalizes learning and often improves results for each student. Students can further master concepts after class through traditional and adaptive homework assignments that provide hints and answer-specific feedback. The ideal course companion, Elements of Physical Chemistry is written specifically with the needs of undergraduate students in mind, and provides extensive mathematical and pedagogical support while remaining concise and accessible. For the seventh edition of this much-loved text, the material has been reorganized into short Topics, which are grouped into thematic Focuses to make the text more digestible for students, and more flexible for lecturers to teach from. At the beginning of each Topic, three questions are posed, emphasizing why it is important, what the key idea is, and what the student should already know. Throughout the text, equations are clearly labeled and annotated, and detailed 'justification' boxes are provided to help students understand the crucial mathematics which underpins physical chemistry. Furthermore, Chemist's toolkits provide succinct reminders of key mathematical techniques exactly where they are needed in the text. Frequent worked examples, in addition to self-test questions and end-of-chapter exercises, help students to gain confidence and experience in solving problems. This diverse suite of pedagogical features, alongside an appealing design and layout, make Elements of Physical Chemistry the ideal course text for those studying this core branch of chemistry for the first time.

The purpose of the present text is to distil the experience of a number of workers active in the field of biochemical education, so providing readable accounts which, it is hoped, will be of significant benefit to those who are new to the teaching profession in addition to those who may be stimulated to experiment with alternative strategies in their own teaching situation. From the various contributions considered in this book, each topic, in its widest sense, would warrant at least a volume on its own and indeed such texts are currently available. However, it was felt more appropriate to restrict the coverage to those aspects which are of particular use to the subject of biochemistry and, for which, work in this area has already achieved some measure of success. In effect what each of us is doing is supplying findings from a body of knowledge collectively called educational technology. Without entering the debate on the semantics of what educational technology is or is not, it doesn't take long to realise that, like the vast majority of subject areas, it has its own unique terminologies and vocabulary. Whilst it is inevitable that such terms will appear throughout the text, hopefully all will be explained on first use and so it is not envisaged that this will be too distractive to the reader.

Solomon/Martin/Martin/Berg, BIOLOGY is often described as the best majors text for LEARNING biology. Working like a built-in study guide, the superbly integrated, inquiry-based learning system guides you through every chapter. Key concepts appear clearly at the beginning of each chapter and learning objectives start each section. You can quickly check the key points at the end of each section before moving on to the next one. At the end of the chapter a specially focused summary provides further reinforcement of the learning objectives and you are given the opportunity to test your understanding of the material. The tenth edition offers expanded integration of the text’s five guiding themes of biology (the evolution of life, the transmission of biological information, the flow of energy through living systems, interactions among biological systems, and the inter-relationship of structure and function). Isaac Newton was indisputably one of the greatest scientists in history. His achievements in mathematics and physics marked the culmination of the movement that brought modern science into being. Richard Westfall's biography captures in engaging detail both his private life and scientific career, presenting a complex picture of Newton the man, and as scientist, philosopher, theologian, alchemist, public figure, President of the Royal Society, and Warden of the Royal Mint. An abridged version of his magisterial study Never at Rest (Cambridge, 1980), this concise biography makes Westfall's highly acclaimed portrait of Newton newly accessible to general readers.

With approximately 50% of the book's material applying to Delphi for Windows, this book teaches developers how to go full-throttle with Delphi--no matter which version they're using. The authors zero in on programming techniques that fully exploit Delphi's capabilities.
