My special target in this book is a segment of the Adventist Church that I will constantly refer to as 'believers on the margins.' I have written especially for those in our midst who have doubts and concerns, for those who wonder where their church is going, and who have trouble believing as they used to.

Fixing Dad is about an ordinary British family’s battle with type 2 diabetes... and how their remarkable success offers hope to millions. Three years ago, Geoff Whitington was overweight, overworked and resigned to a premature death from complications associated with being diabetic. His doctor had begun talking about the possibility of foot amputation. It was at this point that his two sons stepped in with a radical diet and fitness plan – now endorsed by leading doctors – focusing on nutrition, exercise and the mind. In the next six months, Geoff lost more than four stone and reversed his diabetes. Best of all, he got his motivation and enjoyment of life back. But they stuck with it... and in the next six months, Geoff lost 5 stone. He went from being an obese, barely mobile night-time security guard to a fighting-fit endurance cyclist. Best of all, he got his enthusiasm and motivation back. In this book, the Whitingtons show you how they did it ... and share their simple three-part plan to enable you to do it too. Includes delicious recipes, simple menu plans and tips for how to stay on track.

Marcel Reich-Ranicki is remarkable for both his unlikely life story and his brilliant career as the "pope of German letters." His sublimely written autobiography is at once a fascinating adventure tale, an unusual account of German-Jewish relations, a personal rumination on who's who in German culture, and a love letter to literature. Reich-Ranicki's life took him from middle-class childhood to wartime misery to the heights of intellectual celebrity. Born into a Jewish family in Poland in 1920, he moved to Berlin as a boy. There he discovered his passion for literature and began a complex affair with German culture. In 1938, his family was deported back to Poland, where German occupation forced him into the Warsaw Ghetto. As a member of the Jewish resistance, a translator for the Jewish Council, and a man who personally experienced the ghetto's inhumane conditions, Reich-Ranicki gained both a bird's-eye and ground-level view of Nazi barbarism. Written with subtlety and intelligence, his account of this episode is among the most compelling and dramatic ever recorded. He escaped with his wife and spent two years hiding in the cellar of Polish peasants--an incident later immortalized by Günter Grass. After liberation, he joined and then fell out with the Communist Party and was temporarily imprisoned. He began writing and soon became Poland's foremost critical commentator on German literature. When Reich-Ranicki returned to Germany in 1958, his rise was meteoric. In short order, he claimed national celebrity and notoriety as the head of the literary section of the leading newspaper and host of his own television program. He frequently flabbergasted viewers with his bold pronouncements and flexed his power to make or break a writer's career. His list of friends and enemies rapidly expanded to include every influential player on the German literary scene, including Grass and Heinrich Böll. This, together with his keen critical instincts, makes his memoir an indispensable guide to contemporary German culture as well as an absorbing eyewitness history of some of the twentieth century's most important events.

In Sustainable Leadership, Andy Hargreaves and Dean Fink address one of the most important and often neglected aspects of leadership: sustainability. The authors set out a compelling and original framework of seven principles for sustainable leadership characterized by Depth of learning and real achievement rather than superficially tested performance; Length of impact over the long haul, beyond individual leaders, through effectively managed succession; Breadth of influence, where leadership becomes a distributed responsibility; Justice in ensuring that leadership actions do no harm to and actively benefit students in other schools; Diversity that replaces standardization and alignment with diversity and cohesion; Resourcefulness that conserves and renews leaders' energy and doesn't burn them out; and Conservation that builds on the best of the past to create an even better future. This book is a volume in the Jossey-Bass Leadership Library in Education—a series designed to meet the demand for new ideas and insights about leadership in schools.

Nancy Mohrbacher, IBCLC, FILCA, Co-Autorin von Breastfeeding Answers Made Simple und Breastfeeding Made Simple

The C.I.A. Doctors provides proof based on 15,000 pages of documents obtained from the CIA through the Freedom of Information Act that there have been pervasive, systematic violations of human rights by American psychiatrists over the last 65 years. Author Dr. Colin Ross proves that the Manchurian Candidate "superspy" is fact, not fiction. Experiments conducted by psychiatrists to create amnesia, new identities, hypnotic access codes and new memories in the minds of experimental subjects are described from the doctors' own publications. The C.I.A. Doctors proves extensive violations of human rights funded by the CIA and the military and conducted by American psychiatrists in North America, perpetrated not by a few renegade doctors, but by leading psychiatrists, psychologists, pharmacologists, neurosurgeons and medical schools.

What is a Borrible? Borribles are runaways who dwell in the shadows of London. Apart from their pointed ears, they look just like ordinary children. They live by their wits and a few Borrible laws—the chief one being, Don't Get Caught! The Borribles are outcasts—but they wouldn't have it any other way.... The Borribles: Across the Dark Metropolis Battersea was no longer safe for a Borrible. The Special Borrible Group—a secret section of the London police dedicated to finding Borribles and clipping their ears—was closing in. Driven on by the fanatical Inspector Sussworth, the SBG was determined to wipe them out once and for all. It was time to break out, escort Sam the horse to safety in Neasden, then return to the old Borrible life of independence and freedom. So began a perilous trek across the dark metropolis—a journey that would test the courage and cunning of the Adventurers to the limits. Jan Abram's lexicon - The Language of Winnicott - has proved to be the definitive comprehensive guide to Winnicott's thought since it was first published in 1996, Winnicott's centenary Year.
